Welcome. I’m Tanie. Step inside.
Long before there was an apothecary, there was soil under my nails and the quiet patience of learning from the earth itself. I grew up in gardens, both my own and my grandmother’s, hands busy, senses awake. After high school, in 2011, curiosity deepened into devotion. I began growing herbs with intention, not just to admire them, but to know them, to understand how they heal.
When life carried me to Japan and I had a space of my own, that relationship with plants unfolded further. I started blending teas, working with my herbs more deliberately, letting practice teach me what books could not. Study followed. Courses, research, long hours of learning the old ways properly. Extracts and tinctures came next, then skincare and soaps, and eventually medicines. Somewhere along the way, I realized there was no turning back. I was entirely claimed by the work.
At first, everything I made was given freely to friends and family. I created because I loved creating, because it felt necessary, because my hands were happiest when they were busy with herbs and heat and patience. Their response surprised me. Their encouragement lingered. And after a few well-timed nudges from those who believed in me, I opened this door.
The Burgundy Door exists because of that journey. Because of trust, study, trial, and care. What you find here is the result of years of learning, of listening closely, and of choosing to follow the path that kept calling me back. Come in. Take your time. You’re welcome here.

I live in Florida with my husband, Yohei, the quiet constant behind so much of what I do. He has always trusted my work, never asking questions before offering himself as the first willing proof. There are moments when I simply approach him with a spoon and say, “Open,” and he does. No hesitation. No “what is it.” Just faith, given freely.
That kind of trust is rare. It is a gift I do not take lightly. His steady presence, his belief in my hands and my knowing, has made this path possible in ways that are both obvious and unseen. Many of the things I am able to offer the world exist because someone stood beside me and said yes without needing explanation.
The Burgundy Door does not open alone. It opens because love stands nearby, patient and unafraid, ready to taste whatever comes next.

Elvis and Cooper are the quiet keepers of this house. Elvis, often found settled at my feet like a steadfast sentinel, and Cooper, unapologetic sofa claimer and watchful heart, are two of the truest supporters behind the Burgundy Door. They do not know they are helping. They only know how to stay close, how to listen, how to exist with a devotion so pure it reshapes the room.
I love my boys in a way that feels almost too large to hold. The thought of them leaving this world too soon fractures something deep in me, and so I learned another language for love. Canine-specific herbalism grew not from curiosity, but from devotion. Every herb I study, every formula I refine, is guided by the same promise I make to them each day. I will protect what I love. I will not offer what I would not give my own.
What you find here is shaped by that vow. Tested first by trust. Guarded by fur and heartbeat. Approved, always, by the ones who keep the door warm while I work.
